Union minister Balyan, Barala lead Tiranga Yatra in Hisar

HISAR: Union minister of water resources and river developmen­t Sanjeev Balyan and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Haryana chief Subhash Barala led the Tiranga Yatra here on Monday.

Addressing a gathering before the yatra, Balyan said: “The Tiranga Yatra has been started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remember forgotten national heroes, felicitate freedom fighters and their kin.”

Balyan said, “The objective of campaign run by BJP workers and party supporters is to meet, greet and connect with people. I am touring more than 200 km everyday as a part of the Tiranga Yatra.”

Talking to mediaperso­ns, Balyan said, “The first phase of ‘Nadi jodo’ (river-linking) programme will start from this year with the Ken-Betwa river linking project.

“This project will ensure availabili­ty of water to droughtpro­ne areas of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP) and provide irrigation to about 6 lakh hectares of land annually and drinking water to 13.42 lakh people in the two states,” Balyan added.

On the Tiranga Yatra, Barala said, “No previous government ever remembered the heroes of the freedom struggle. It’s the BJP government that started rememberin­g our national heroes. We are meeting the family members of freedom fighters and assuring them that we are with them and will be forever.”
