Stalker stabs Shillong woman to death at Gurgaon metro station

GURGAON: A 34-year-old woman was stabbed to death by a stalker in full public view at the busy MG Road Metro station on Monday.

The victim, Pinki Devi, was stabbed multiple times in the stomach, her throat slit and arms slashed. She later succumbed to injuries at Gurgaon civil hospital.

Pinki hailed from Shillong in Meghalaya and worked as an assistant at a beauty parlour in Rohini area of Delhi. She was on her way to work when the incident took place at 9:30 am.

Police said the accused, Jitender Kumar, was waiting for her at the entry of the Metro station gallery. He attacked her from behind but could not flee as people present at the spot caught hold of him and thrashed him. He was later handed over to police.

The CCTV footage recovered from the Metro authoritie­s shows the victim walking through the gallery area while talking on phone and the accused following her. “However, the incident could not be not been clearly recorded as the spot is not in direct reach of the camera,” said a CISF official.

As Kumar attacked Pinki, some passersby tried to intervene but he threatened them with knife, said a shopkeeper at the station. Kumar kept on stabbing the victim until a passerby hit him with a table fan.

Pinki’s husband Maan Singh, a native of Nepal, claimed Kumar had been stalking her for some time and she had informed him about it. Initially, Pinki used to hire Kumar’s auto to and fro MG Road station after which he started stalking her, he added.
