NGO comes up with a quick action plan
GURGAON: A Gurgaon-based nongovernmental organisation (NGO) submitted a proposal for better road accident response system to the administration.
Members of Gurgaon Action Plan (GAP), the NGO, said that their plan will help accident victims immensely in the golden hour.
Gauri Sareen, GAP founder, said that a number of lives can be saved if there is an effective response from authorities and citizens. “Hospitals, civic agencies, traffic police and citizens have to be brought on the same page to help accident victims.
THE PROPOSAL HAS ALSO HIGHLIGHTED THE LACK OF AMBULANCES AND PROBLEMS FACED BY GOOD SAMARITANS. IT SAYS THAT A NUMBER OF LIVES CAN BE SAVED IF THERE IS AN EFFECTIVE RESPONSE FROM THE AUTHORITIES AND CITIZENS
We have brainstormed on this issue in detail and submitted some suggestions to the district administration,” she said.
The proposal entails that every hospital must be directed to attend accident victims on humanitarian grounds, irrespective of their capability to pay for the treatment.
“The police needs to set up quick response groups in each sector and residents be made aware of contact details. There is also a need for holding workshops to sensitise people about immediate help to accident victims,” Soniya Khurana, a resident, said.
The NGO members said that the nearest PCR vans must also respond immediately and hospitals must be asked to provide treatment, even if a medico-legal case has not been filed.
Another resident, Sanjeev Kumar, said that the Union ministry of transport and highways should provide free accident care to victims. “Experts should be roped in to conduct safety audits and a road safety committee must be formed to prevent accidents,” he said.
The proposal has also raised the issue of lack of ambulances and problems faced by Good Samaritans. The NGO members said they will hold seminars, workshops and work with hospitals and the administration to push this agenda of helping accident victims.
