Bhiwani acid attack: Victim’s cousin arrested

ROHTAK: Police on Sunday arrested the cousin of the 19-yearold girl, who was attacked with acid when she was sleeping at her residence in Denod village on December 23.

The accused has been identified as Vishnu, the son of the victim’s maternal uncle, who belongs to Chang village in the district.

The accused allegedly removed the quilt from the victim’s face and threw acid on it, and fled the spot.

The police have also recovered the acid bottle from which he attacked teen. In her statement to the police, the victim and her family said they could not identify the person behind the incident and raised no suspicion on anyone. The victim had said that she tried catching the accused, and got hold of his hand, but he managed to break free and run away.

The police said they were investigat­ing the role of a family member in the incident, which led to Vishnu’s arrest.

“We are trying to ascertain the reason behind the attack. So far, we know that they had a fight over some issue when Vishnu visited their home. He will be produced in court and taken into police remand,” Bhiwani Sadar police station incharge said.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Chaudhary Bansi Lal Civil Hospital in Bhiwani, where her condition is stated to be out of danger. She had suffered critical burn injuries on her face and hands.
