CHANDIGARH : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two rallies ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab. After making the poll pitch in Jalandhar on January 27, he will be addressing another rally in Ludhiana on January 29.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting on three seats each in Jalandhar and Ludhiana, which have a large chunk of its supporters.

Sources said the state BJP was also planning one of the two rallies in Bathinda, but the proposal was turned down by the central leadership. They said Modi will be seeking votes on development plank besides touching upon demonetisation and Punjab-specific issues.

BJP national president Amit Shah will also campaign in the state, for which the state unit is working on a three-day schedule after Modi’s rallies. Punjab BJP secretary Vineet Joshi said Shah is expected to cover Pathankot and Hoshiarpur districts.
