Police seize ₹15 lakh in three different cases in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana rural police seized unaccounte­d ₹15 lakh in three different cases on Thursday.

Police seized ₹8 lakh in new currency and ₹2 lakh in foreign currency from Cheena Money Exchanger based in Jagraon. The cash has been handed over to the income tax department.

In another incident, Gulzar Singh from Dharamkot of Moga was detained by Mullanpur Dakha police for carrying ₹2.96 lakh .

In third incident, cash totalling ₹2.46 lakh was seized from Jasvir Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshehr) by the Ludhiana rural police.

Senior superinten­dent of police (Ludhiana Rural), Opinderjit Singh Ghuman, said income tax department and election commission have been informed about the seizures.

Meanwhile, the Ludhiana police commission­erate recovered ₹5.98 lakh in cash from a vehicle during checking at a naka near Sherpur Chowk, but later the money was returned to the occupants of the vehicle after they produced relevant documents.
