Telangana techie shot dead in US, cops suspect robbery angle
HYDERABAD: A 27-year-old Indian techie was shot dead by an unidentified miscreant in California on Saturday.
According to the reports, Vamsi Chander Reddy Mamidala from Warangal district of Telangana was found dead with bullet injuries near his apartment at Milpitas in California.
He was staying in the US after completing his MS in computer sciences from a private university in Silicon Valley.
The police, who reached the spot after hearing the gunshots, suspect that a person, reportedly a black, might have shot him dead to rob him of money and car.The incident took place barely a day after Mumbai youth Rakesh Talreja (25) was shot dead by four unidentified men at his Kingston home in Jamaica.
Vamsi’s father Mohan Reddy Mamidala, a farmer from Vangapahad, said he received a call from the US police on Sunday.
Vamsi had left for the US to pursue his MS degree after completing his B Tech from Vathsalya Institute of Science and Technology at Bhongir in 2014. After completing his MS degree, Vamsi started doing a part-time job at a departmental store in the US and had been looking for a permanent employment.
“He called me on Friday and was worried about the dwindling job opportunities in the US . I told him to come back , if he did not get any job there,” said Reddy.
It is learnt the police had taken the accused into custody.
