Kuthiala panel for increase in retirement age of Haryana university teachers to 65 years
CHANDIGARH : The five-member University Review Committee, constituted under Professor BK Kuthiala to improve the quality of higher education in Haryana, on Tuesday recommended to increase the retirement age of university teachers to 65 years.
The panel presented its report along with its audio version to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and education minister Ram Bilas Sharma. It also recommended increasing the retirement age of university vicechancellors to 70 years besides enhancing their tenure to five years.
Other recommendations include implementing recommendations of Rashtriya Uch- chatar Shiksha Abhiyan and constituting Uchchatar Shiksha Parishad, Haryana, under the chairmanship of the chief minister through legislation.
The committee, which included Om Parkash Arya, professor Rajnish Arora, professor Yogesh Singh and Rakesh Gupta, carried out a study of the higher education system in the state, visiting various universities and interacted with a large number of teachers, students and officials, said an official release.
The panel has suggested that every university student must devote minimum 25 hours per week in classroom or laboratory. Besides, all students graduating from university must have some skills other than their basic subjects of study. Another recommendation is that work should be carried out in all universities in the state in a uniform manner in accordance with a single Act, the draft outline of which has been presented by the panel.
