NEW DELHI: An Information Technology (IT) professional accused of harassing a woman on social media for the past four months has landed in the police net.

The techie, whose proposal a woman shot down, allegedly made accounts in her name on social media, uploaded obscene photos on her wall and wrote vulgar messages to defame her.

He allegedly bought several SIM cards, including an international number to send obscene texts to her and her family.

The techie, Aman Singh, a BTech in Information Technology, landed in the police net on February 16. The matter came to fore after a woman approached the police saying a person was harassing her sisterin-law on social media. She said the woman had met the accused once at a college fest in which both became friends, but soon fell apart.

Since their tiff, the woman stopped talking to him, but he kept calling her from different numbers forcing her to keep in touch. She alleged that when the woman refused, he threatened to defame her.

“She said that the victim went into depression,” DCP, West Vijay Kumar said.

A team was then engaged to crack the case by using technical expertise. “All the relevant information from social media sites was accessed.

The accused sent filthier messages, texts and photographs on the woman’s mobile through social media,” he said.

A technical chase led the police to the accused. During questioning, Singh disclosed he became very possessive about the woman and wanted her at any cost.
