BHOPAL: The case involving a teenage girl who was run over by a train on Monday in Govindpura village of Datia district has taken a new turn, with the police suspecting it may have been a case of honour killing .

Preliminary reports had suggested that the girl was running away from attackers when she was hit by a train.

The woman had gone to relieve herself close to the railway tracks around 5.30am on Monday.

Two men, Nawad Yadav and Sanju Yadav, from the same village had allegedly tried to rape her, the girl’s father had said in his report.

Her aunt was an eyewitness to the incident and had informed the family, he said.

But villagers later informed that the girl had gone on her own, and that she had been in a relationship with one of the accused.

She was caught with one of the accused in a field two days ago. When the father came to know about it, he was upset with the girl, and had also informed the man’s family, they said. That was on Sunday. On Monday, she was found dead on the railway track.

On Tuesday, police arrested both the accused and seized their mobile phones.

Now, police will check the call records to verify if the woman was in relationship with the man as indicated by the villagers. The girl’s family has said she did not have a phone.

Datia SP Irshad Wali said, “Things are so complicated. We are investigating all the aspects. As of now, I can’t say much about the case.”
