Militants attack Manipur deputy CM’s security team

One policeman was injured when unidentified militants attacked Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam’s security team in Khoupum area under Noney district on Tuesday. The incidents took place at two different places along the hilly Tongjei Maril route connecting Bishnupur and Noney districts when Gaikhangam was on his way to attend a flag hoisting function of the ensuing 11th assembly election at his constituency Khoupum, about 85 km west of here, sources said. “We heard that a fire fight between the militants and police was ensued following a series of blank fire while we are attending the election function around 12 noon,” a congress worker said.
