Saeed’s arms licences cancelled

-

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has cancelled the licenses of 44 weapons issued to JuD chief Hafiz Saeed and other members of his organisations, citing security reasons.

An official of the Punjab home department said the step has been taken in line with the government’s action against Saeed and his organisations, the Jamaat-udDawa and the Falaha-e-Insanyat.

“The Punjab home department cancelled licenses of 44 weapons for security reasons,” the official told PTI. The government had put Saeed and four other leaders of his organisations under house arrest in Lahore for 90 days. Saeed and 37 members of JuD and FIF have been barred them from leaving the country.

DEFENCE MINISTER CRITICISED

Pakistani political and religious leaders on Tuesday criticised defence minister Khwaja Asif for calling Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed a “serious threat” to his country.

“Asif’s statement makes him sound like he’s India’s defence minister, not Pakistan’s,” said Mahmoodur Rasheed, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader.

Former prime minister Azad Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Attique said the defence minister’s statement was to appease India, Pakistani daily The News International reported.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch said the defence minister “has lost control over his tongue”. AGENCIES
