BSF lift Principal Harbhajan Singh memorial football trophy
MAHILPUR: BSF, Jalandhar, defeated Punjab Police, Jalandhar, 2-1 to lift the inter-club trophy on the concluding day of the 55th edition of the Principal Harbhajan Singh Memorial Football Tournament at Mahilpur on Tuesday.
Punjab Police took the lead (1-0) when Harvinder Singh scored a goal in the 72 minute. But in the last phase of the match, BSF scored an equalizer through Md. Asif (82nd min). As both the teams were tied at 1-1 till the stipulated time, the match was stretched to extra time.
In the second half of the extra time it was Vishal’s goal that led BSF to title victory (2-1). In the under-17 category, Football Academy Baddon defeated Football Academy Mahilpur 2-0 to lift the title. While in the college category final, Layalpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, defeated SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, 1-0. Results (Final): U-17: FA Baddon (Amarpreet Singh -20th, Jaswinder Singh –39th) beat FA Mahilpur 2-0.
College category: Lyalpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, (Manjit Singh -22nd) beat SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, 1-0.
Club: BSF Jalandhar (Md. Asif – 82nd, Vishal – 115th) beat Punjab Police, Jalandhar, 2-1 (Harvinder Singh – 72nd).
