SIRSA CHIEF GURMEET RAM RAHIM IS FACING TRIAL IN A CBI COURT IN A 15YEAROLD RAPE CASE
PANCHKULA Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Saturday moved an application, seeking permission to go abroad for nearly a month, in Panchkula’s special CBI court, where he is facing trial in a 15-year-old rape case.
In his application, the dera chief sought permission to travel to several countries including Cambodia, Maldives, Singapore, South Africa, Japan, Poland and Vietnam from June 7 to July 5 in order to promote his upcoming film ‘Jattu Engineer’. The court will hear the matter on Monday.
High court rejects application to summon rape victims
After CBI court, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday also rejected the application filed by Baba Gurmeet Singh’s counsel to direct the CBI, which is investigating the case, to provide the copies of the rape victim’s statements recorded by the then investigating officer Sat Narain in his case diary and then to summon them for cross examination.
The defence counsel argued record to show that Sat Naryan had recorded the statement, which is admitted position on record by way of cross examination of another investigative officer KL Raina before the CBI court. In its order, the high court said that the accused was doing nothing but making of a mountain out of a molehill. There is no reason for this court to assume that the statement contemplated by Section 161 Cr.P.C was indeed recorded by inspector Sat Narain. Hence the matter stands disposed, the court said.
The court had also vacated the interim stay in the case as ordered on March 16. The case, involving two rape victims, dating back to 2002, was handed over to the CBI for investigation after intervention of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.The trial at local CBI court is now towards the
