2 killed, 10 hurt after car rams into crowd at fair in Amritsar

AMRITSAR: In a tragic mishap, two people were killed and around a dozen injured after the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze lost control, hitting an Esteem and an i-20 before ramming into the crowd that had come to see the annual mela Baba Darshan Singh in Kale Ghanupur village of Amritsar on national highway-1.

Those dead are Vandana Paytal and Ranjeet Kaur. A child, who remains unidentifi­ed, is critical.

The driver of the Cruze has been taken to the Chhehertta police station.

The details of the accident were not clear till the filing of the report.

Deputy commission­er of police Jagmohan Singh said, “Preliminar­y details are that an uncontroll­ed car hit vehicles and later entered a gathering. We are verifying the names of the injured.”
