CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday asked chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to junk the justice Ranjit SIngh Commission on Inquiry immediately as it had lost credibility after he claimed that his predecessor Parkash Singh Badal was behind the firing during anti-sacrilege protests in Faridkot two years ago.

In a statement, the SAD said the party would resist any attempt by Amarinder to deliver “kangaroo court justice” against the former five-time chief minister. “The cat is out of the bag. The commission cannot be expected to come out with a fair verdict. It should be wound up immediately”, said SAD MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

The chief minister had last week alleged that Badal wa behind the “unwarranted” police firing in Faridkot in which two persons were killed, adding that an inquiry commission se up to probe the firing inciden would prove his charge.

Dhindsa said the SAD wa committed to unearthing the conspiracy behind a chain of sac rilege events in the state. “The earlier SAD-BJP governmen had forwarded the case to CBI The chief minister has even pre judged the inquiry ..... this show how much regard he has for lega and constitutional procedures,” he said.

Asking the government to do away with the inquiry commis sion, the SAD leader said i should also simultaneously ask the CBI to expedite its investiga tions into the cases of sacrilege so that the “real culprits are brought before the people”.
