Pratibha Suman appointed Haryana women panel chief
SUMAN, 42, OF ROHTAK IS FORMER HARYANA BJP MAHILA MORCHA PRESIDENT
ROHTAK : The Haryana government on Monday appointed Pratibha Suman as the new chairperson of Haryana State Commission for Women.
Suman, 42, a resident of Rohtak, has been associated with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1999. She was the president of BJP’s Mahila Morcha in Haryana till six months ago. At present, she is a member of the BJP state executive.
Suman will replace Kamlesh Panchal, who had alleged that the BJP government did not let her function because she was appointed during the Congress tenure.She had fought and won the elections of nagar parishad from Rohtak in 2000 and 2005, and was appointed as the chairperson in 2003. She was also appointed as the national secretary of BJP’s mahila morcha wing in Chandigarh in 2011.
“I have been fighting a battle for women for the past two decades. I have fought against dowry and female foeticide and infanticide,” Suman said, while talking to HT.
She said ensuring equal rights for women in Haryana will be her priority.
“The state government has done a lot of good work. We have women police stations where women feel comfortable in reporting crimes. There is Oper ation Durga that is saving col lege girls from harassment Haryana has become a safer place for women under the BJP,” Suman added.
