NEW DELHI: You will now be able to pay taxes or even track your TDS (tax deducted at source) at the click of your mobile button.

The government, on Monday, launched an app to bridge the gap between taxpayers and the income tax department. The mobile app—Aaykar Setu, launched by finance minister Arun Jaitley—will also allow you to apply for a permanent account number (PAN) and then link it with the unique 12 digit unique Aadhar.

“This is a very important step forward by the CBDT and the principle reason being technology as a very powerful tool becomes an enabler,” Jaitley said, adding that most of the work can be done by the assessee sitting at home, without any external help.

The first-of-its-kind mobile app launched by the CBDT, can be downloaded by giving missed calls on 7306525252. The app will help in creating direct communication between taxpayers and the department. All information, updates, SMS alerts on tax related issues including important tax dates will be available on your phone through this app.

“It also helps us in improving the image of the department…for the reason that oneof-the-not-so-acceptable alibis given by those who don’t comply is we don’t comply because the harassment that compliance involves..not that this reason has much reason in it, but today this reason getseliminated,” the minister said.
