‘TERROR CAMPS IN PAK STILL NOT CLOSED ’
ARMY CHIEF RAISES CONCERN OVER RADICALISATION IN J&K
JAMMU: Indian army chief General Bipin Rawat on Saturday said that the security scenario across Kashmir was improving.
General Rawat was fielding media queries at Sunjuwan military station here after awarding the ‘President’s Standard’ to the 47 Armoured Regiment.
He also expressed concern over increasing radicalisation in the state and said, “It is a worldwide phenomenon. We are addressing it with a lot of seriousness.” We are trying to ensure people are weaned away from this kind of radicalisation, he added.
He also described NIA raids on separatists in Kashmir as complimentary to the efforts of the Centre in restoring normalcy in Kashmir.
“In Kashmir, we are following the government approach to deal with the situation and the NIA raids are a part of it...” he said.
On launch pads coming up across the Line of Control (LoC), he said, “I can’t understand when these training camps were closed. They were never closed… they were there in the past and they are there now also”.
On the possibilities of Doklam-like stand-off with China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), he said that India will have to remain prepared.
On Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s statement at Karachi on October 11 of having a “genuine desire” to have peaceful relations, General Rawat said, “Any talks or anything else if it has to be done has to be decided at the political level. We will continue to perform our task” he asserted.
