Defence personnel, war widows booked for plot fraud

ROHTAK::The police in Bahadurgarh on Monday registered first information reports (FIRs) against at least 10 people for fraudulently obtaining Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) plots under reserve category.

The accused, booked under sections 177 (furnishing false information), 200 (using as true such declaration knowing it to be false) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), include ex-servicemen, serving defence personnel, war widows, people belonging to scheduled and backward castes.

Bahadurgarh city police station in-charge Pardeep Kumar said they have booked 125 people so far in the last one year on complaints lodged by HUDA in this connection.

The complaints state that as per the policy and terms and conditions, an applicant can avail the benefit of allotment of HUDA plot only once in lifetime under the reserve category.

All these accused gained the benefits by submitting false affidavits and concealing facts. For example, the police on Monday booked Captain Dashrath Singh, who under defence personnel quota obtained a plot in Jhajjar in 2008 despite being allotted a plot in Hisar in 1978.

In a 2013 case of Dharam Singh Yadav vs State of Haryana, the Punjab and Haryana high court had directed the HUDA to get FIRs lodged in all such cases of frauds.
