MANDI : Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) senior leader Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Saturday that the Congress will pay for insulting ex-Union minister Sukh Ram and his son and former state panchayati raj minister Anil Sharma.

The former chief minister, who shared dais with after a decade, said this while addressing people at election meetings in Mandi’s Pandoh area.

The father and son recently quit the Congress to joined the BJP three days before the filing of nominations for the state assembly elections was to begin.

The newly inducted leaders accused chief minister Virbhadra Singh of sidelining them and insulting them in front of party workers at a rally of Congress’ national vice-president Rahul Gandhi in first week of October.

They said continuous insults forced them to join the BJP and fight for their self-esteem by defeating the Congress.

Sukh Ram had formed the Himachal Vikas Congress (HVC) when he was expelled from the Congress in 1998. Five party candidates won and Sukh Ram, who was holding key to forming government in a hung assembly, merged his party in the BJP helping Dhumal to form government.

Dhumal said belonging to an erstwhile royal family Virbhadra still behaves like a king in the present-day democratic set-up. He said people raised slogans against ‘rajvada shahi’ (kingdom) in Rampur, Virbhadra’s hometown.
