THREE INJURED IN PROPERTY DISPUTE IN GURDASPUR

BATALA : Three persons were injured in a clash between two groups at Diwaniwal village, as they opened fire at each other over a property dispute on Sunday.

The area falls under the jurisdicti­on of civil lines police station. The injured persons were rushed to the Batala civil hospital, where one of them, Jaswant Singh, was referred to Amritsar for being seriously injured.

The injured were identified as Gurmej Singh, Lakhbir Singh and Jaswant Singh.

Talking to mediaperso­ns at the civil hospital, one of the injured, Gurmej Singh, sarpanch of the village, said that last year he purchased 12-acre land in his village that was adjoining to the land of Jaswant Singh.

“Today evening, when I and my brother Lakhbir Singh were going to our land, Jaswant and with his companions blocked out way and started abusing us. The verbal spat turned ugly and Jaswant opened fire at us but luckily, we dodged it,” Gurmej said.

He added, “Later, Jaswant’s companions attacked us with sharp-edged weapons and in a bid to save ourselves, I too opened fire at them following which, they fled the place but took away my pistol along.”

No case was registered till the filling of this report. HTC
