Two more Gounder aides held in Patiala for Nabha jailbreak
PATIALA : Two more aides of fugitive gangster Harjinder Singh alias Vicky Gounder were arrested in Patiala on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Davinder Singh alias Rimpy Dabwali (35) of Pathrala village in Bathinda district and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (33) who belongs to Pandori village in Amritsar district.
The two were nabbed from different places in a joint operation of the Patiala police and the organised crime control unit.
Superintendent of police (SP) Harwinder Singh Virk said Rimpy and Gopi were accused of harbouring and facilitating the escapees, especially Gounder, in the Nabha jailbreak in 2016 besides providing other logistics.
“Their names cropped up during interrogation of Inderjit Singh Sandhu, a key aide of Gounder. They were under the radar since,” Virk said.
They were also wanted in other cases that were lodged at the Rajpura sadar police station, the SP said.
“Rimpy will be in police custody till January 5, while Gopi has been remanded till January 6,” he said.
Inderjit Sandhu, who handled extortion money made by the gang and Gounder’s social media accounts, was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on December 13, when landed from Jordan on a fake passport.
A case has been registered under Sections 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death or hurt), 384 (extortion), 392 (robbery) and 506 (criminal intimidation), besides 120B (criminal conspiracy), 148 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly), of the Indian Penal Code. Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act have also been added in the FIR at the Rajpura sadar police station.
The police have already rearrested four of the six escapees, including KLF chief Harminder Singh Mintoo, Kulpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and Amandeep. Vicky Gounder and Kashmira Singh Galwadi are on the run.
