MAN BLUDGEONED TO DEATH IN SANGRUR; 1 HELD

SANGRUR: Police have arrested a local resident for bludgeonin­g a 32-year-old man to death here. The victim Balwinder Singh alias Shera was attacked by Mandeep Singh Doger, Surinder Singh, Hari Om, and Satnam Singh alias Satta, all Sangrur residents. While Mandeep has been arrested, the remaining accused are on the run. Shera’s father Nath Singh told police that his son used to work as a labourer. On Sunday when Shera did not return home, Nath and his brother started searching him. Near the railway station, they saw the victim being hit with a stick and a stone by the accused who fled. Shera died on the spot. “The accused were drunk and attacked Shera accusing him of being an ‘informer’. We have arrested Mandeep and raids are being conducted to nab the others” said station house officer (SHO) Vijay Kumar. A case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
