CM MOURNS DEATH OF DALIT LEADER KAINTH
CHANDIGARH: PunjabCM Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday expressed grief over the demise of state Congress vice-president and former MP Satnam Kainth who died in Mohali on Sunday. He was 57.
The CM recalled Kainth’s contribution in Punjab politics, especially for championing the cause of the downtrodden.
Kainth was founder of Bahujan Samaj Morcha. Born in Banga, Kainth remained a leader of opposition after winning assembly polls on Bahujan Samaj Party ticket in 1992.
However, following some issues, Kainth left the BSP and formed Bahujan Samaj in 1999. The Morcha was delisted by the Election Commission as it failed to put up any candidates for the elections since 2005.
Kainth merged his morcha with the Congress in 2007 and unsuccessfully contested assembly polls from Adampur and Banga in 2012 and 2017 on the Congress ticket.
