Gurdwara employee gets 7-year jail for rape
BATHINDA:The court of additional sessions judge Parminder Pal Singh on Monday sentenced a gurdwara employee to sevenyear jail for raping a woman.
Convict Kedarnath Singh, 35, of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, has also been fined ₹20,000 by the court. He has also been sentenced to three-year imprisonment under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC for abducting the woman. Both the sentences will go concurrently.
The convict, who a native of Bihar, was working as a class-4 employee in the district courts. He later become a baptised Sikh and started delivering sermons at a gurdwara at Guru Gobind Singh Nagar here.
The court also sent two others, Gurpreet Kaur and her mother Paramjit Kaur of Baba Farid Nagar, to three-year imprisonment for allegedly attempting to abduct the victim. The 20-year-old victim was Gurpreet’s friend and used to visit the gurdwara.
The victim’s counsel said Gurpreet asked her to go with Kedarnath to become a baptised Sikh . Kedarnath took victim to Abohar where he raped her repeatedly.
