Revise wellness centre plan: AAP MLA to govt

-

CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kanwar Sandhu on Monday asked the Punjab government to revise its Health Wellness Centre Scheme due to a faulty implementation plan.

In a letter to health and family welfare minister Brahm Mohindra, Sandhu wrote that the government’s plan to launch 2,950 wellness centres across the state in a phased manner, of which 240 would be started within 2018, was appreciable but the manner in which it was being launched would wreck the existing government health services in the state, especially in the rural areas.

The Aam Aadmi Party MLA requested the minister to ensure that the rural health services were strengthened and not weakened further.

Appointing staff nurses with six months training from IGNOU as community health officers would be against the basic principle of having qualified medical officers at the cutting edge of health care, he said. HTC
