One of the good things that happen in the New Year celebrations is that you happen to be a guest at several parties where you get not only to have the best of food and drinks but also get to meet old and long-lost friends. That is why one looks forward to New Year parties so eagerly and patiently.

Friends are a very essential part and parcel of one’s life, and one can’t have a fulfilled life without them.

It is in the nature of human beings, and even in animals, to have friends to make life meaningful and enjoyable. American author O Henry says friendship “can’t be an accident,” it has to be an art of cultivation involving not only love, care and regard but also making it sure that you need to warn yourself not to take your friends for granted, and also making it sure to let them be what they are.

Only then, to quote philosopher Henry David Thoreau, “nothing makes the earth seem so spacious” as sharing your friends’ world of blissfulness.

After all, life is nothing if we can’t enjoy other’s company to fulfil our mission as necessary obligation for the rights we enjoy. Friends take pride in themselves, in case they can do something good for you, particularly in critical times, a part of the vicissitudes of life.

And, as they say, no man is a failure who has friends!
