LUDHIANA’S FREAKY TALE: BODY IN A BOX

Ludhiana An 82-year-old woman in a village here has locked the body of her grandson in a wooden box and is refusing to cremate him until his alleged killers are put behind bars.

Gurdayal Kaur of Hathur village, 25 km from Jagraon. grandmothe­r of Gurpreet Singh, 22, has also threatened to hold a dharna along with the body outside the police station if the cops fail to act in the case.

Gurpreet’s father Jasveer Singh had complained to police that his son had left the house to go to an immigratio­n centre in Chandigarh on December 30. When he failed to return, the family lodged a missing report at the Hathur police station.

During investigat­ion, police found that Gurpreet had befriended a Jalandhar girl on Facebook. The girl’s brother

Lovedish Singh got upset when came to know about their relationsh­ip. Also, it is alleged that Gurpreet had some objectiona­ble pictures of the girl. It further angered Lovedish, who then hatched a plan along with his aide Jatinder Gill to eliminate Gurpreet, said police.

Division Number 5 station house officer Inspector Jatinder Singh said Gurpreet’s call details revealed that he had talked to Lovedish. The probe further revealed that Lovedish and Jatinder had kidnapped Gurpreet and after murdering him had dumped his body in Jagraon.

Gurpreet’s mutilated body was recovered on January 9. The body was identified from the clothes.

Both Lovedish and Jatinder have been booked on murder charges. “They are on the run. We are conducting raids to nab them,” said the SHO.

Ludhiana Rural senior superinten­dent of police Surjit Singh told HT on Tuesday evening that they have assured the woman of prompt action and she has agreed to cremate the body on Wednesday.
