‘STAFF CRUNCH’ FORCES STATE WOMEN PANEL CHIEF TO RESIGN

-

MOHALI: Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Paramjit Kaur Landran put in her papers on Monday. The government has accepted her resignation.

Landran was appointed as the commission chairperson by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in January 2013 and her tenure was end in January 2019.

“I was forced to resign due to staff crunch due to which the commission was not able to function properly. The commission represents the 60% population of the state and it should be taken seriously. The commission is voice of the women.”

She added that two staff members retired and another two got promoted. The government even failed to appoint a member secretary, she said.

In the past one year, Landran had heard 8,500 cases. A senior SAD member said: “The commission did not even have 10% of the sanctioned staff.”
