‘Peo­ple with sick men­tal­ity be­hind crime against women’

KARNAL: Haryana State Com­mis­sion for Women mem­ber Nam­rata Gaur on Tues­day said peo­ple of sick men­tal­ity are be­hind in­ci­dents of rape and mur­der and there is a need for an aware­ness cam­paign among the youth.

She said the youth, es­pe­cially the teenage boys, must be sen­si­tised and par­ents should spend qual­ity time with their chil­dren.

Gaur said she had come to Karnal af­ter she re­ceived a com­plaint from a lo­cal wo­man, who al­leged threat from un­known per­sons.

“I have re­ceived a com­plaint from a wo­man who stated that some peo­ple are ha­rass­ing her on the phone and they have also threat­ened her of dire con­se­quences,” she said.

Gaur said the wo­man had also filed a com­plaint with the po­lice but com­plained that she was not sat­is­fied with the po­lice ac­tion.

The panel mem­ber said she has taken up the is­sue with Karnal SP Jashan­deep Rand­hawa and the po­lice have as­sured her co­op­er­a­tion to the wo­man but she was not ready to come for­ward.

The po­lice have al­ready reg­is­tered an FIR in the case against un­known per­sons.
