Ka­mala Mills: Co-owner of Mojo’s ar­rested

MUM­BAI: Yug Tulli, 39, co-owner of Mojo’s Bistro, lo­cated in­side the Ka­mala Mills com­pound where a blaze killed 14 peo­ple on De­cem­ber 29, was ar­rested by the Mum­bai po­lice on Tues­day.

He has been sent to po­lice cus­tody till Jan­uary 20 by the Bhoi­wada Court.

Tulli had been on the run, along with his newly wed­ded wife, for more than a week. He, how­ever, claimed that he had sur­ren­dered to the po­lice as his an­tic­i­pa­tory bail plea was re­jected in Amritsar.

“We have ar­rested Yug Tulli, af­ter he sur­ren­dered him­self be­fore po­lice to­day morn­ing at the N M Joshi Marg Po­lice Sta­tion,” said S Jayku­mar, ad­di­tional com­mis­sioner of po­lice (Cen­tral). Tulli was spot­ted at Hy­der­abad air­port with his wife on Sun­day, sources said, but dis­ap­peared by the time the of­fi­cers reached the spot.

The po­lice had formed three teams to track him down.

Tulli is the co-owner of Mojo’s Bistro, along with Yug Pathak, son of re­tired di­rec­tor gen­eral of po­lice and for­mer Pune po­lice com­mis­sioner KK Pathak.

Pathak was ar­rested in the first week of Jan­uary af­ter the fire brigade, in a re­port, said that the blaze had orig­i­nated at Mojo’s due to the em­bers fly­ing from a hookah and then spread to the restau­rant, 1 Above.

Both have been booked un­der the IPC sec­tion re­lated to cul­pa­ble homi­cide not amount­ing to mur­der.

On Thurs­day, the own­ers of 1 Above, Ab­hi­jeet Mankar, and broth­ers Kripesh Sang­havi and Ji­gar Sang­havi were ar­rested from Ban­dra.

They, too, had man­aged to evade the po­lice for a while.

Hote­lier Vishal Kariya, who was ar­rested for shel­ter­ing the three ac­cused at his home in Juhu, was granted bail by the high court.
