THREE HELD FOR ₹9LAKH KOTKAPURA ROBBERY

FARIDKOT : Police claim to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of three men who snatched Rs 9 lakh from a farmer, Sukhraj Singh, outside a HDFC Bank branch in Kotkapura on January 4. Police have recovered a .315 bore pistol, five cartridges, Rs 50,000 and a Toyota Corolla car from the men. The kingpin and main accused, Jagsir Singh alias Seera, is absconding.

Those arrested are Gurwinder Singh, of Moga district, and Gurbinder Singh and Kuldeep Singh, of Ferozepur district. In this particular case, the farmer Sukhraj, of Harike Kalan in Muktsar, had told the police the men broke the glass of his Toyota Innova with a rod and shot at him before snatching the cash bag.

Police claim that it has solved 11 robberies registered in Faridkot, Ludhiana, Ferozepur and Bathinda districts with the arrests. The gang is also accused of snatching two cars from Chandigarh.

The gang’s modus operandi was that it kept watch outside banks and followed people who withdrew large sums of money to zero in on their target. They robbed either at gunpoint or by firing shots in the air.
