ATUL NANDA: LEGAL HAWK ADEPT AT THE POWER GAME

He has made the office of the advocate general of Punjab a happening place. A close friend of Amarinder and his legal counsel on court cases, both personal and relating to government, Nanda also knows a thing or two about pulling political strings. In no time of the Congress victory, he edged out other contenders to make it to the coveted post; one of the first things he did after becoming the AG, was to appoint his wife, Rameeza Hakeem, as the additional AG. Kin of politicians and bureaucrats also made it to the list of legal officers. Nanda was perceived to have invited the CM’s displeasure for “not defending” the case against Suresh Kumar well in the HC. Some see it as mutual mistrust, others as turf war.
