Patwari among three booked for ₹4L embezzleme­nt in Bathinda

BATHINDA : Police have booked three people, including a Patwari, a village Nambardar and a panchayat member — all residents of Bajak village — for allegedly embezzling Rs 4 lakh meant as compensati­on for damage of cotton crop due to whitefly attack in 2015.

Complainan­t Ramvir Singh, of Bajak village, alleged that panchayat member, Gurmit Singh, patwari Jagdev Singh and nambardar Lakhvir Singh embezzled the amount meant as compensati­on for cotton crop damaged due to the whitefly attack on cotton. They have been booked under sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

Investigat­ion officer ASI Gamdoor Singh of Sangat police station said they were yet to verify the amount embezzled as several other similar cases might appear. HTC
