Patwari among three booked for ₹4L embezzlement in Bathinda

BATHINDA : Police have booked three people, including a Patwari, a village Nambardar and a panchayat member — all residents of Bajak village — for allegedly embezzling Rs 4 lakh meant as compensation for damage of cotton crop due to whitefly attack in 2015.
Complainant Ramvir Singh, of Bajak village, alleged that panchayat member, Gurmit Singh, patwari Jagdev Singh and nambardar Lakhvir Singh embezzled the amount meant as compensation for cotton crop damaged due to the whitefly attack on cotton. They have been booked under sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Investigation officer ASI Gamdoor Singh of Sangat police station said they were yet to verify the amount embezzled as several other similar cases might appear. HTC
