Haryanvi singer Mamta found dead with throat slit

ROHTAK: Popular Haryanvi singer Mamta Sharma (40) was found dead with her throat slit at Baniyani village of Rohtak district on Thursday. The singer used to perform at religious programmes.

She was reportedly missing since January 14.

The police said villagers of Baniyani, which is also the native village of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, found Mamta’s body lying in the bushes on Thursday afternoon. They informed the police, following which a team of forensic experts was rushed to the spot. The body has been sent for postmortem to the Postgradua­te Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.

Mamta’s son Bharat said his mother went missing on January 14 when she left home with her associate Mohit Kumar to attend an event. Mohit said while they were going, a car stopped at Lahli village in which Mamta went saying she was going with her friend to Kalanaur and will join them in Gohana after an hour where the event was scheduled.

A missing person’s FIR (first informatio­n report) was lodged at the Kalanaur police station.

The police said they have registered a case under section 302 (murder) against unidentifi­ed person(s), though no clue has been found as of now.

The police said they were going to investigat­e Mamta’s call details to get some leads in the case.
