‘Will ensure support to revive Saraswati’
YAMUNANAGAR : Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said he will ensure all assistance to Haryana in developing Adibadri, the place where the Sarasvati river is supposed to have originated , as a tourist destination.
Gadkari , who reached Adibadri in Yamunanagar to attend a programme on the International Saraswati Mahotsav-2018, said that the Centre will also help the state government complete the Saraswati project and asked chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar to submit proposals to the Centre for construction of a dam and development of a tourism circuit in this area.
Gadkari said the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the archaeological department had also confirmed Saraswati channels in this area. “It is our duty to inform the new generation about our rich culture, heritage and history,” he said.
He said the government would not only make rehabilitation arrangements but would also provide adequate compensation to the affected people, if required.
The chief minister said report on construction of a dam on the Som river was ready and it will soon be sent to the Centre to ensure flow of water in the Saraswati. He announced to build a big bridge between Adibadri Narian Temple and Kedarnath Temple at Adibadri. The government would make adequate arrangements for rehabilitation of people of Bheron and Mantra villages located in a radius of the 88 acres proposed for the construction of dam. Khattar said water of the Shivalik range will be stored by making small dams and the government has also signed an MoU with the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) for flow of water though pump-sets.
