Indians to open vs Lanka in tri-series

NEW DELHI: Almost immediatel­y after the limited overs series in South Africa, the Indian cricket team will head to Sri Lanka to play a Twenty20 tri-series to mark the island nation’s 70th Independen­ce Day.

India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play for the Nidahas Trophy 2018 from March 6 to march 18.

The tri-series championsh­ip will follow a round-robin format with all the three teams playing each other twice, and the top two progressin­g to the final to be played on March 18.All the matches will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The matches will be shown live on DSport, a premium sports TV channel launched by Discovery Communicat­ions India specifical­ly for the subcontine­nt. This will be the first time when internatio­nal cricket featuring the Indian cricket team will be shown on DSport.

MATHEWS INJURED

DHAKA:Skipper Angelo Mathews is doubtful for Sri Lanka’s second ODI in the tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh after the allrounder sustained a suspected injury on Thursday. Mathews, who was in action during Sri Lanka’s opening loss to Zimbabwe on Wednesday, was under observatio­n ahead of the crucial game against the hosts on Friday. “He had hurt his hamstring. We are not sure if it’s hamstring or cramping and (we’re) waiting for the specialist’s verdict,” batting coach Thilan Samaraweer­a told reporters.
