ISI agent arrested in Batala
: The Batala police claimed to have arrested an agent of Pakistan’s secret service agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who was recruiting Indian youths to the ISI.
Senior superintendent of police Opinderjit Singh Ghumman said that on December 7, after getting specific information from military counter intelligence, the police had arrested one Gianbir Singh, a resident of Shikar Massian village , who was passing information about the movement of BSF troops to his Pakistani handler. The spy used to get money and weapons from his ISI handler in exchange for providing information.
“During his interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was introduced to the ISI operative by one Shamsher Singh alias Shera, a resident of Jogi Cheema village of Kahnuwan police station. On the basis of the information provided by Gianbir, a special police team was constituted to arrest Shemsher Singh, who had been absconding,” said SSP Ghuman.
“On Saturday morning, on a tip-off, a police team, led by CIA in-charge Lakhwinder Singh, laid a naka near Jogi Cheema t village and arrested Shemsher Singh,” he said. The police also recovered one.315 bore and one .12 bore country made pistols from his possession.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he was asked to do recruitment for the ISI. Along with this, he was passing information on the movement of the location of camps of the army and the BSP to the ISI. The accused used social networking sites like WhatsApp and Facebook to send information across the border
A case under Sections 3, 4, 5, 9 of the Official Secrets Act 1923 and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC has been registered.
