Hry inks MoUs with Johnson Matthey, Birmingham varsity
CHANDIGARH:A high-level delegation, led by Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar in UK, signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in London on Friday.
One of the MoUs is for cooperation from the University of Birmingham for utilising knowledge to boost agricultural production and productivity and the other with Johnson Matthey, a British multinational, for a project involving an investment of ₹800 crore in Haryana.
The MoU with Johnson Matthey was signed by TL Satyaprakash, managing director (MD), HSIIDC, and Philip Blakeman, MD, Johnson Matthey Asia Pacific, in the presence of the CM for setting up a new ₹800 crore facility in Haryana. The MoU with the University of Birmingham was signed by Satyaprakash on behalf of the Haryana government and prof Tim Jones, provost and vice-principal of the university.
Johnson Matthey already has two entities in India — Johnson Matthey India Private Limited (JM India) and Johnson Matthey Chemical India Private Ltd. Both these are operating as 100% subsidiaries of Johnson Matthey Plc.
The project cost of ₹800 crore involves land acquisition, construction, installation of machines, commissioning, training of manpower and creating support infrastructure. JM India proposes to augment capacity by building a new plant in the NCR or around it to get the maximum advantage of proximity to the clients and support from existing plant at IMT Manesar. The project will require sanctions and statutory approvals by the first week of August, 2018 to match the tight timeline.
