Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, minister of rural development and panchayats, water supply and sanitation, on Monday, said that new rules and regulations for the regularisation of illegal colonies in Punjab will be introduced by the end of June.

Bajwa, who was here to lay the foundation stone of the ‘Guru Ramdas Jee Urban Estate’ on the premises of the old central jail, which has now been shifted to a new building at Fatahpur village on the Chabhal road, on the Ajnala road, said the introduction of the rules and regulations is under discussion.

“The sub-committee, constituted by chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh under the supervision of cabinet minister Brahm Mohindra, is conducting meetings regularly to finalise the rules”, he said on the sidelines of the foundation stonelaying function, which was also attended by Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and other Congress MLAs.

He said final decision in this regard will be taken in consultation with all stake holders, including colonisers. He said a meeting has been called on Tuesday in which suggestions on the rules will be invited.

Speaking on the urban estate planned on the old jail premises over an area 71 acres, the minister said the first convention centre will be established in the colony over an area of 10 acres. He said experienced consultants will be hired to develop the colony.
