Police have moved an application seeking cancellation of the first information report (FIR) against Shahkot MLA Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia in the illegal sand mining case after they claimed that they didn’t find any evidence against him in the inquiry.
The application was submitted in the court of JMIC Tanveer Singh in Nakodar on Tuesday.
Hours after Ladi was announced as Congress candidate for the Shahkot bypoll, the Mehatpur police had booked him for illegal mining on the complaint of Mohan Singh, who is general secretary of the Bhattha (brick kiln) Majdoor Union.
The case was registered under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and R egulation) Act and Section 379 (theft) of the IPC.
District attorney said that the court has issued a notice to complainant Mohan Singh to appear in the court on August 2 if he has any objection. DSP Dilbagh Singh said that after the threemember SIT failed to find any evidence in the case, the police moved the cancellation report.
