PATHANKOT : Seven out of the eight accused in the Kathua rape and murder case were shifted to Gurdaspur Central Jail on Wednesday by a police team, led by Pathankot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni.

The eighth accused is a juvenile who is being tried in Kathua.

The Supreme Court (SC) had ordered their shifting to Gurdaspur two days ago. They were taken to Gurdaspur after the trial of the day was over at 5.45pm in the court here.

The Gurdaspur jail is 35 km from the Pathankot district court.

The Gurdaspur jail reportedly already has 1,007 inmates against a capacity of approximately 850.

Jails minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that after the SC orders were brought to his notice, he had instructed jail superintendent KS Sandhu to make adequate arrangements to lodge the Kathua rape accused.

Meanwhile, the examination of Manjoor Ahmed, a revenue official, was conducted on Wednesday.

He had sketched the map of the crime scene.

On Thursday, the examination of Hiranagar station house officer Suresh Gautam will be conducted. Gautam had registered the case at his police station.
