70-yr-old booked for sexually assaulting 5-year-old Dalit girl

ROHTAK : The Rewari Police, on Monday, booked a 70-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old Dalit girl. The police said the incident occurred on Saturday when the victim had gone to the accused’s shop, when he lured her inside and sexually assaulted her. She screamed for help and managed to flee.

“My daughter came home crying and narrated the ordeal to her mother. We confronted him, but the man evaded us. Then, we approached the sarpanch and asked him to hold a panchayat and punish the man,” the victim’s father said.

He added that the panchayat, on Sunday, asked him to settle the case in exchange of ₹5 lakh, but he did not agree and insisted that the man be punished.

Kosli DSP Anil Kumar said no arrest had been made yet.

“We are recording the statement of the victim and her medical examinatio­n has been conducted. The child welfare committee is counsellin­g her,” Kumar said, denying any knowledge of money being offered.

The man has been booked under section 6 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 3 of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
