SAD to start panchayat poll campaign from August 20
SANGRUR: With the state set to see a slew of polls starting from the panchayat and zila parishad polls in September to the general electiosn in 2019, SAD has announced that it will start is election campaign from August 20. The day will also see the commemoration of the 33rd death anniversary of the party’s former president, Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, at Longowal in Sangrur district, said senior party leadership.
“The people of the state are facing a tough time as the Congress government has failed to fulfil its pre-poll promises. The SAD is the only party which can address the problems of Punjab. We are going to start our election campaign for upcoming panchayat and parliament elections from the death anniversary of our former President Sant Harchand Singh Longowal,” said former state finance minister and Lehra MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
“SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal will address the function along with other senior leaders of the party,” he added.
Earlier in the day, SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Parminder, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal and Sangrur district observer of the party, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, held a meeting with party workers at Gurudwara Nanakiana Sahib on preparations for the event to commemorate Longowal’s death.
Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said the SAD-BJP government had done all-round development of the state during its ten-year rule, but in the Congress regime the residents of Punjab are missing SAD-BJP government as Congress had been exposed over its ‘false promises’.
