Twenty-two persons were killed and 14 injured when an overcrowded mini-bus fell into a 300-ft-deep gorge on Saturday after its driver lost control over the vehicle on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district, officials said.

Among the dead were three members of a family and the driver. Ten critically injured passengers were airlifted from the accident site to the Army Hospital at Udhampur and two others to Jammu, they said.

The vehicle was on its way to Ramban from Banhihal.

JAMMU: A professor of Government Degree College (GDC), Ramban was booked for sexual harassment on Saturday after he allegedly sent inappropriate text messages to female students.

Based on a written complaint of college principal Ravinder Ticku, an FIR number 158 under Section 294 and 354 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and Section 67 of Information Technology Act was registered against the accused, said Ramban SSP Anita Sharma.

“The accused was college’s national social service (NSS) coordinator. Students alleged that he had been sending obscene messages on the WhatsApp group created for the students who were a part of NSS,” the SSP said.

In his complaint to the police, the principal said, “I had received an application from three female students of this college wherein professor SA Ganai, associate professor in English, has been accused of sexual harassment by sending abusive messages. Necessary action under rules may be initiated.” “We will record the statement of the victims on October 8,” she said.
