Buses, trains swamped as thousands of aspirants struggle to reach centres
KARNAL : Thousands of aspirants of Group D posts of Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) had to face a tough time to travel to their exam centres on Saturday.
The buses and trains were overcrowded with aspirants, who had to travel from one district to another to appear in the exam as the examination centres were not allotted in their home districts. Even the district administration and the police remained on their toes to organise the exams.
“I could not get a bus due to a huge rush in the morning and then decided to hire a cab to reach my examination centre in Yamunanagar,” said Mohit Kumar of Karnal. The passengers were also seen struggling to the reach their destinations at the bus stands and railway stations.
Meanwhile, the Haryana Roadways has issued instructions to its general managers in some districts to ply the buses by late night to provide relief to commuters.
The HSSC is conducting the exams to fill 18,218 vacancies of group D in various government departments in the state and the exams will also held on November 11, 17 and 18.
SPECIAL EXAM TRAIN TO CHANDIGARH
The Railways on Saturday morning cancelled the Rohtak-Panipat passenger train and instead named it ‘special exam train’ that dropped over 2,000 group D government exam candidates up to Chandigarh.
This was done after a large number of candidates created ruckus at the Rohtak railway station late night and halted the Jaipur-Chandigarh inter-city express due to paucity of space. Thousands of candidates blocked the rail track and entered the engine of the intercity express, demanding authorities to run a special train to Chandigarh for them.
After halting inter-city express for three hours, the authorities gave in to the demand and ran a special train at 4 am to Chandigarh by cancelling the Rohtak-Panipat passenger train. The inter-city express ran three hours late from its scheduled departure.
