Police to quiz prime accused for 4 more days

AMRITSAR : An Ajnala court on Saturday extended the police remand of Avtar Singh, 32, who is the prime accused in the Amritsar grenade attack, by four days.

Avtar Singh of Chak Misri Khan and his aide Bikramjit Singh Dhariwal had allegedly lobbed a hand grenade on a religious congregati­on at Nirankari Bhawan in Rajasansi town on November 18, leaving three peopl dead and 16 injured. Dhariwal, who was arrested on November 21, is in police custody till November 3.

CRIME SCENE RECREATED

Avtar, who was arrested on November 24 and sent to police remand till December 1, was produced in the court of duty magistrate Geeta Rani amid tight security on Saturday afternoon.

“The judge has extended Avtar’s remand for another four days,” said superinten­dent of police (investigat­ion) Harpal Singh.

Police on Friday had also taken Avtar to the Nirankari Bhawan for recreating the crime scene.

With Avtar’s arrest, police had traced his links to Harmeet Singh ‘PhD’, the self-proclaimed chief of Inter-Service Intelligen­ce (ISI)-backed Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) based in Pakistan.

Avtar was practising as a quack in his village and had no criminal history.His family has been alleging that he has been falsely implicated in the case.
