Drunk cop rams car into MLA’s gypsy, booked

SBS NAGAR : A Punjab Police head constable, driving a Maruti Alto in inebriated condition, got into a head-on collision with two vehicles in Nawanshahr on Thursday.

The policeman on driving seat has been identified as head constable Labh Singh of Bathinda. While, Krishan Kumar of Mohali was accompanyi­ng him. Both are posted at 82 Battalion Punjab Armed Police (PAP) in Chandigarh.

One of the vehicles involved in the accident was Jandiala Guru MLA Sukhwinder Singh Danny’s pilot gypsy.

The impact of the collision was such that the gypsy overturned, while, another car Maruti Ertiga was mangled badly. Nobody sustained any grievous injury and were discharged after first aid.

The police have also recovered nine bottles of King’s Gold brand liquor, bought from Chandigarh. As per the rules, one can carry only two liquor bottles outside the city borders. The victim driving the Ertiga, Ashok Kumar, lodged a first informatio­n report (FIR) and said an over speeding Alto car, being driven by cops, hit his car before hitting a gypsy.

A case under Sections 279 and 427 of the IPC and Sections 61-1-14 of the Punjab Excise Act was registered at Sadar Banga Police Station on Thursday night. Sadar Banga SHO Rajiv Kumar said the cops were arrested and later released on a bail as the charges were bailable. HTC
