SHAKTIKANTA DAS IS NEW RBI GOVERNOR

The government on Tuesday appointed Shaktikanta Das as the new governor of the Reserve Bank on India, a day after Urjit Patel resigned. Das, who was secretary in the department of economic affairs when PM Narendra Modi demonetised the high-value currency notes in November 2016, has the immediate task of normalising the RBI’s relations with the government and reassuring the markets about the direction of the central bank policies.
